Sahasrara
Sahasrara: Seventh Chakra
At the crown of our head is a wonderful vortex of violet energy, and it is energy that is the element of this chakra. When our crown chakra is open we experience a boundless connection to the universal consciousness. We are selfless, there is a wisdom, and intuitive knowing as we develop spiritually.
We feel a fulfillment of our true destiny, a sense of bliss. We can access the subconscious and unconscious realms. And we have the ability to take a leap of faith.
The Crown Chakra deals with the most important knowingness, the knowingness of the self.
When we are out of balance we become worried and depressed. Physically we can feel chronic exhaustion; we can develop muscular-skeletal problems, cranial cerebral illness. We can become sensitive to light or sound.
The Pineal gland is the gland of the seventh chakra. The pineal gland releases Melatonin: a key component to healthy sleep function, and a powerful anti-oxidant that helps prevent free radical damage from fatty acids – a primary cause of aging in our brains.
The Demon of this chakra is Attachment.
Attachment is slippery as we cannot entirely live without it. We have loved ones and goals. Also for some, letting go of attachment is also letting go of responsibility, and it becomes a means of escape.
When we let go of connection – rather than work through a sticky issue, we experience freedom, but at the cost of growth. To let go of attachment is to let go of a fixation, to relinquish our need to control.
Attachment is: not trusting the universe while it is trying to teach us something.
What is the underlying belief that supports this attachment?
What purpose does this belief serve?
What are its benefits? What are its costs?
When we release our attachment to an outcome we are able to begin to hear the voice of our soul. We begin to know intuitively what to do.
Avoidance – Attachment in reverse
Almost anything said about attachment can be said about avoidance. What we are avoiding is equally pertinent to our growth.
The Unaligned Sahasrara
- Emotions: Doubt, depression, alienated, bored, apathetic
- Mental: confused, distrustful, know and accept only physical reality, unable to learn.
- Physical: relate only to the physical body, disconnected from higher sense of self
- Social: connects only with physical reality
- Beliefs: limited to physical reality, nature has to be conquered
- Behaviour: has to take control and go it alone
The Balanced Sahasrara
- Emotions: harmonious, bliss, joy
- Mental: Clear, peaceful, directed
- Physical: Balanced
- Social: an inspiration, teacher, leader
- Beliefs: beyond beliefs.
- Behaviour: consciously guided by higher self.
The crown chakra is all about opening up to a universal intelligence, a higher power, god or whatever you want to call it.
When we open ourselves to the mystical transcendent side of spirituality we open up our ability to surrender. Only when we can surrender our attachments, our need to control, our outmoded patterns and habits can we really begin to understand the magnitude of who we really are and how we fit in universally.
Try this…
Mindfulness is an essential key to living a conscious life. Mindfulness means paying attention, being present. It is the observation of all the subtle textures, colours, smells of each moment without becoming attached. This full experience brings us satisfation. Mindfulness takes practice.
Try eating a meal in silence. Take time to look at the food on your plate, to chew each mouthful becoming more aware of the flavours.
Try sitting in stillness, observing the breath as you inhale and exhale. Begin to notice which nostril you are breathing through. Notice the air on your skin, and then become aware of the sensations within your body. Three minutes is a good place to start, gradually building the length of time.
